What ingredients are in HOLY Iced Tea®?
Black tea, hibiscus or green tea base
Green tea, black tea and hibiscus each form the basis of our iced tea. This not only gives the varieties a natural tea flavour, but also a healthy colour. What’s more, black and green tea are good for the stomach, have antibacterial properties, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and also have invigorating effects. Phew!
Green tea with catechins
Do you have any extra green tea in there as well as the base? Yes, we do – a green tea with a 30 per cent catechin content. Catechins are polyphenols and are therefore among the most powerful antioxidants of all. What’s more, just like normal green tea, catechins have an antibacterial effect and help lower both your blood pressure and your cholesterol – only even more effectively.
Hop extract
Hops in iced tea? Hops in iced tea! Hop extract isn’t just for beer – thanks to its many health benefits, it also belongs in our iced tea! That’s because hops have a calming effect and promote sleep, whilst also possessing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties – and can even help with fat burning.
Acerola juice powder with vitamin C
Even the Mayans valued acerola as a source of good health, as it is one of the three best sources of vitamin C and, like catechins and hop extract, has an antioxidant effect. So it’s perfect for our HOLY Iced Tea®!
Tulsi aka Holy Basil
Tulsi, or HOLY Basil? Of course, we can’t do without it in our iced tea! But it’s not just because of the name – like hop extract and inulin, tulsi has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract, is antibacterial and has soothing properties. Add to that its unrivalled aroma, and tulsi is an absolute must-have in our iced tea.
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha offers you natural relaxation – this powerhouse plant has been a star of Ayurvedic medicine for over 5,000 years. Why? Because it’s a miracle stress-buster. It helps you unwind and ensures a restful night’s sleep – so you wake up feeling refreshed and revitalised in the morning. That’s exactly why ashwagandha is a key ingredient in our HOLY Iced Tea®!
The following varieties do not contain any Ashwagandha also contains:
Classic Green Tea
Classic Black Tea
Classic Hibiscus Tea
Strawberry x Hibiscus
Inulin
We don’t use sugar in our energy drink or our iced tea. Why? Sugar isn’t actually that bad as an energy source when consumed in moderation, but unfortunately it’s usually added in excessive amounts to soft drinks. The savvy amateur chemist might now suspect maltodextrin, but we don’t put that in our shaker either, as it has a similar effect on blood sugar levels. Instead, we use inulin, a dietary fibre that aids digestion, has no effect on blood sugar levels and contains just 2 calories per gram.
Natural fruit flavours
Natural flavours all the way! We avoid artificial flavourings entirely. They aren’t the root of all evil; they’re not harmful or unhealthy, but they just don’t taste as good. That’s why we’ve spared no expense or effort to bring you the finest flavours, such as the exotic acai berry.
Sweeteners: stevia and sucralose
As explained in more detail in the section on energy drinks, we have deliberately opted for sweeteners instead of sugar. This is because, in our view, small amounts of sweeteners are significantly better than the 7 grams of sugar per 100 ml found in normal iced teas. After all, drinking just 400ml of iced tea means you’ve already exceeded the maximum recommended daily intake of sugar.
However, we have listened to your requests for more natural sweeteners. After a very long development process, our sweetener now consists solely of stevia and small amounts of sucralose. The quantities are so small that you could drink 8 HOLY Iced Tea® and still not reach the recommended daily intake of either sweetener. So, for us, it’s clearly the better option :-).
What else is in it?
Acidifiers (citric acid, malic acid): To add a subtle tangy kick to balance out the sweetness, we use small amounts of citric acid and malic acid. Malic acid and citric acid are safe, particularly in the small quantities found in HOLY. Nevertheless, we do not recommend consuming malic or citric acid in its pure form or in large quantities, as this can be harmful to your teeth.
Sodium citrate: We use small amounts of sodium citrate to keep the pH of the powder stable and thus extend its shelf life. Sodium citrate is completely safe, as it is easily processed by the body.
Silicon dioxide: At HOLY, silicon dioxide acts as an anti-caking agent and ensures that our powder does not absorb moisture and consequently clump together. Silicon dioxide is therefore essential, particularly in our red-coloured flavours, which contain large quantities of beetroot extract. Silicon dioxide itself, in the fine-particle form in which it is found in HOLY, is completely harmless.
