What ingredients are in HOLY Energy®?

NEWCAFF®

Can’t function without caffeine? You’re not alone! After all, caffeine is the most widely consumed active ingredient in the world; its effects help combat tiredness or delay the onset of fatigue. Unfortunately, too much caffeine can lead to unpleasant side effects or even a crash 1–2 hours after consumption. We’ve often experienced this ourselves, which is why we use the patented caffeine NewCaff®. NewCaff® breaks down more slowly, resulting in a longer-lasting and more consistent caffeine boost.

Inulin

We don’t use sugar in our soft drinks. Why? Sugar isn’t actually that bad in moderation as a source of energy. But soft drinks usually contain far too much of it. The amateur chemist might now suspect maltodextrin, but we don’t put that in our shaker either, as it has a similar effect on blood sugar levels. Instead, we use inulin, a dietary fibre that aids digestion whilst having no effect on blood sugar levels – and contains just 2 calories per gram.

Natural caffeine (from coffee beans)

But I want an instant caffeine boost, not one that takes hours to kick in! To ensure that HOLY works straight away, half of the caffeine we use is conventional caffeine from coffee beans, which takes effect immediately. With this blend, you get what we believe is the best possible caffeine curve, including both an immediate and a delayed caffeine boost.

L-Tyrosine

L-tyrosine has become an indispensable part of the supplements scene. And with good reason! It has been proven to aid dopamine production (which boosts mood) and protect against oxidative stress (environmental toxins). Furthermore, studies have shown it to have positive effects on ‘working memory’. Perfect, then, for gaming or work.

Pepper extract (piperine)

Pepper extract in an energy drink? It has little to do with flavour – it actually serves a specific purpose! Many functional ingredients lose their effectiveness when they first pass through the liver. Piperine counteracts this, thereby improving the bioavailability and, consequently, the effectiveness of our energy drink.

Green tea extract with L-theanine

Green tea in an energy drink? Absolutely yes, especially if it’s green tea with a high L-theanine content! Green tea isn’t just an antioxidant; the L-theanine it contains also influences neurotransmitter levels and thus has a calming effect. Caffeine and L-theanine are therefore often referred to as the perfect pairing: caffeine gives you a boost, whilst L-theanine counteracts the side effects of caffeine, such as nervousness. The result: a pleasant caffeine boost without the crash!

LipoCholine®

Choline is particularly popular amongst biohackers. And with good reason! Choline supports the transmission of information in the brain and is essential for the interface between nerves and muscles. To make sure you don’t literally come to a standstill without choline, every HOLY Energy® contains a full 500mg of high-quality LipoCholine®.

Panax ginseng

Panax ginseng has been shown to have many beneficial effects, which is why it has been highly prized in Asia for thousands of years. Its antioxidant properties protect cells, boost the immune system and give your energy levels a lift. Furthermore, studies show that Panax ginseng reduces mental fatigue. That’s why it’s an absolute must in HOLY Energy®!

Inositol

Inositol acts in the brain in a similar way to choline as a neurotransmitter, whilst also having a sweet taste – yet it contains hardly any calories!

Vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12

B vitamins for the brain and nerves! B vitamins are now a common feature in both supplements and energy drinks – and for good reason. B vitamins are essential for the body’s energy metabolism and the nervous system, and they also help reduce tiredness. Reason enough for us to ensure our HOLY Energy® drinks each contain 100 per cent of the recommended daily intake of the six B vitamins!

Vitamin C

Vitamin C – probably the best-known nutrient of all. This all-rounder plays an important role in many parts of your body and should therefore definitely be consumed in sufficient quantities. Vitamin C is particularly helpful when gaming or working, as it helps reduce tiredness and supports the normal functioning of the nervous system. #VitaminBomb

Vitamin D

Vitamin D – the ‘sunshine vitamin’ – is more important than ever these days. A vitamin D deficiency can lead to hair loss, muscle weakness and an increased susceptibility to infection; and in winter, it’s more the norm than the exception. HOLY Energy® covers your daily requirement here too. Brilliant, isn’t it?

Natural fruit flavours

Natural flavours all the way! We don’t use any artificial flavourings at all. They’re not the root of all evil; they’re not harmful or unhealthy, but they just don’t taste as good. That’s why we’ve spared no expense or effort to bring you not only fruity classics, but also exotic flavours like yuzu and calamansi!

Natural dyes

All or nothing: we also avoid using artificial colourings. From turmeric and safflower blossoms to beetroot extract, we use only the finest ingredients to achieve our vibrant colours.

Sweeteners: sucralose and acesulfame K

We use sucralose and acesulfame K as sweeteners. But why?

We knew that, in order to replace tinned energy drinks, we had to deliver a truly compelling taste. To achieve the right level of sweetness in HOLY Energy®, we then had the choice between sugar and sweeteners.

Even though sweeteners aren’t perfect, we’ve opted for them because they’re needed in significantly smaller quantities. A standard energy drink contains 11g of sugar per 100ml, so you’d already exceed the maximum recommended daily intake with just 250ml. Our levels of sucralose and acesulfame K, on the other hand, are so low that even if you drink 3 litres of HOLY Energy®, you’ll still be below the maximum recommended daily intake.

Our conclusion: Sweeteners aren’t perfect, but they’re a far lesser evil than vast quantities of sugar.

What else is in it?

Acidifiers (citric acid, malic acid): To add a subtle tangy kick to balance out the sweetness, we use small amounts of citric acid and malic acid. Malic acid and citric acid are safe, particularly in the small quantities found in HOLY. Nevertheless, we do not recommend consuming malic or citric acid in its pure form or in large quantities, as this can be harmful to your teeth.

Sodium citrate: We use small amounts of sodium citrate to keep the pH of the powder stable and thus extend its shelf life. Sodium citrate is completely safe, as it is easily processed by the body.

Silicon dioxide: At HOLY, silicon dioxide acts as an anti-caking agent and ensures that our powder does not absorb moisture and consequently clump together. Silicon dioxide is therefore essential, particularly in our red-coloured flavours, which contain large quantities of beetroot extract. Silicon dioxide itself, in the fine-particle form in which it is present in HOLY, is completely harmless.
